Bad Religion (Music Video’s) [1994]. 21st Century Digital Boy

I found out about Bad Religion with this song, but in a demo on PC (cf. Demoscene) in which the song was sampled and recomposed / replayed from the samples (in a tracker format). I loved the song until I first listened to Stranger Than Fiction a few years later, when I was still a teen, loved the album. At the time I listened to other punk-rock bands (and other genres as well). Bad Religion is the only punk-rock band I still listen to from time to time, today. And I don’t know why (or maybe I know actually..), one of the few (or maybe the only one ?) bands / musicians from that day I still like and listen to nowaydays.

Bad Religion is a punk rock band that formed in Los Angeles in 1979.^[4] Their current line-up consists of Greg Graffin (vocals), Brett Gurewitz (guitar), Jay Bentley (bass), Greg Hetson (guitar), Brian Baker (guitar) and Brooks Wackerman (drums). Gurewitz is also the founder of the label Epitaph Records, which has released almost all of the band’s albums. They are often credited for being involved in the revival of punk rock and inspiring several subsequent punk bands^[5][6][7][8] during the late 1980s, as well as influencing a large number of other punk and rock musicians throughout their career.^[9] Bad Religion is also particularly known for their use of soaring 3-part vocal harmonies (which they refer to in their album liner notes as the “oozin’ aahs”), sophisticated and intellectual lyrics, and political or religious commentary. Their lyrics often relate to matters of social responsibility.

Graffin attended El Camino Real High School, then double-majored in anthropology and geology as an undergraduate at the University of California, Los Angeles. He went on to earn a master’s degree in geology from UCLA and received his Ph.D. from Cornell University. The Ph.D. dissertation was officially a zoology Ph.D., supervised by William B. Provine at Cornell. The dissertation was entitled “Monism, Atheism and the Naturalist Worldview: Perspectives from Evolutionary Biology.” It is described as being essentially an evolutionary biology Ph.D. but having also relevance to history and philosophy of science.^[4]

Greg Graffin spends most of his time in Upstate New York, and teaches Life Science 1 and Earth & Space Sciences 116 (paleontology) at UCLA during the winter or fall quarters of each school year.^[5]
